Prayer on the beginning of the School Year

Let us pray for all teachers and students as they begin another school year.

Almighty God, heavenly Father; You alone are the source of all wisdom and knowledge.  By Your gracious guidance You have established places of learning in communities great and small for the care and nurture of young people.

As a new school year begins be with all children, that this may be a year of academic, social and spiritual growth for each of them.  Be with them as they study, that they may retain the material necessary for vocations of love and service in their communities.  Be with them as they play, that the barriers of old may melt away, and that new friendships and bonds may be formed, that they may look at others based on character.  Be with them as they face temptations to sin, that the Holy Spirit would guide them in paths of holy living.

We also pray that You would be with those who teach.  Grant them students who are eager to learn, and eager to help one another.  Grant that they may be refreshed each day in the confidence that their work does not go unnoticed, but that You are watching over them and caring for them.

Be with all administrators, that they would oversee all things with a watchful eye, ensuring that those who teach and those who learn do so in the best possible conditions.

Be also with those who serve in staff positions, that as they serve in ways sometimes unnoticed, that You would give them joy in their work, protect them from harm and danger, that they may show all they encounter that Your love knows no bounds in service to neighbor.

Finally, we pray that You would watch over all parents; that they may encourage their children in their studies; keeping a watchful eye over them when they are at home, and trusting that their teachers are watching over them at school.

We pray for all of these things, asking that You would bless this year as a time of learning, and a time growth; protecting one and all from temptation, and granting Your grace to all who serve in Your kingdom; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit; one God, now and forever. AMEN
